The prize is the top two teams will remain at Blue Lock, while the other three teams will be eliminated and forced to leave. Leaving means never being able to represent Japan’s National Team. Yoichi Isagi and his fellow group mates must devise a strategy to win against the other higher-ranking team. However, victory will be difficult to achieve with every player’s mindset now twisted by the new egoist philosophy. Can Isagi and his team win when everyone on his team is fighting the other to stay in Blue Lock? Find out in Blue Lock Volume 2!

Review and Recommendation

Blue Lock Volume 2 was even more nail-biting than the previous volume. The round-robin tournament in this volume was filled to the brim with vigorous gameplay and diabolical strategies. It continues to twist sports philosophies of teamwork and sportsmanship, molding the main character, Yoichi Isagi, into a more strategic and instinctive player. In volume 2, Isagi hones in on his talent of seeing the game well but still struggles with his previous “one for all and all for one” mindset that is even further twisted by the new egocentric philosophy confusing every player. Each player in Blue Lock has exceptional talent but hasn’t yet figured out the mindset of a football/soccer player. I still highly recommend this warped sports drama, and I’m excited to see the next twisted challenge that will further evolve Isagi and his teammates into elite strikers.

Cautions

*Spoiler Alert* (A spoiler alert is being issued because there are mentions of specific plot points that relate to the rating of this review.)

Blue Lock Volume 2 is rated Older Teen 16+. Similar to volume 1, the manga doesn't specify the reason for the rating, but it does contain some content that may not be suitable for all readers. There is still strong language (the f-word is used more frequently in this volume) and mild nudity, such as a panel where a character is nude and his teammate tells him to “put his dick away.” Based on these instances, I agree with the initial rating and recommend this book to mature readers.
