Review and Recommendation

Volume 3 of Demon Slintroduceson of the central trio: Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke. These three characters have opposite personalities to distinguish from each other. Still, this is also done to emphasize the different coping mechanisms of the immense burden and struggle of being a demon slayer. The author displays each character’s dual traits while making each one likable. I had such a nostalgic experience re-reading this volume and reminiscing about the changes this trio experiences from this volume to the end of the series. This volume also sets up the formula of the story going forward. Each volume centers around the different demons and their unique abilities or “blood demon art” and pushes Tanjrio and his friends to figure out the various strategies and sword techniques needed to defeat each unique demon. There is still a deeper plot beyond this formula, but the formula is what holds my interest the most. Each fight captivated me and my need to know how these demon slayers would win against mighty demons. The personalities of each character, weaved in with their own unique fighting strategies, keep the story fresh and nail-bitingly engaging. I still have nothing but praise for this volume and series overall.

*Spoiler Alert* (A spoiler alert is being issued because there are mentions of specific plot points that relate to the rating of this review.)

Cautions

The level of gore in volume 3 is more intensified than in the previous two volumes. For example, there are multiple panels of demons being slain. Some demons have limps ripping out of their bodies as they die, while others are beheaded or lose body parts while battling. There is also some mild language throughout this volume as well. I recommend this series for teens or adults.
