The Mandalorian Volume 1

Synopsis

A Mandalorian bounty hunter goes on a classified mission for a high payout. His assignment is to retrieve the asset, alive or terminated, for a lower fee. Upon discovering the mysterious asset, the Mandalorian has second thoughts about returning this child to the Imperial Remnant for possible experimentation or worse. Thus begins the journey of the Mandalorian and the child.

Review and Recommendation

I am a massive fan of The Mandalorian show, and I was very excited to discover that one of my favorite shows would be made into a manga. I have read a few of the Star Wars comics. I have enjoyed those very much and am interested in reading more about the Star Wars universe through different authors' interpretations. The Mandalorian Volume 1 is a condensed version of the first two episodes of season one. A manga style works well for this series because it is very action-heavy and not so focused on dialogue, contributing to better pacing throughout the book. It was a swift read and a great recap of the scenes from the show. A few pages at the end of the manga also give extra details about the Mandalorian’s ship, weapon, and carbon freezing. Overall, I recommend this manga if you’re a fan of the show or just like the Mandalorian.

Cautions

The Mandalorian Volume 1, with a recommended age rating of Older Teen for graphic violence, depicts the Mandalorian's battles in a style reminiscent of the show but in a graphic novel medium. The book has no foul language or other types of innuendo, but it has a few violent panels. Based on the intensity of the violence in the manga, I would still recommend this book to teen readers or older.
